Description: Columbia University President Minouche Shafik said talks with student organizers of encampment protests have failed to reach an agreement. The university will not divest investments from Israel, a key demand of protesters at Columbia and other campuses. Columbia did offer to expedite a review process of new divestment proposals and publish its direct investment holdings. It also offered investments in health and education programs in Gaza as negotiations resulted in a stalemate. The protests at Columbia are in their second week and risk disrupting its May 15 commencement ceremonies.
