Description: Sprängreedli is a short documentary about a tradition in the villages of the canton Basel-Land in Switzerland. The tradition unites villagers on a Sunday evening in late February to go up on a hill and burn a big fire. The point is to chase away winter and welcome spring. The people put wooden discs with flattened edges onto hazel sticks and hold them into the bonfire. The edges of the discs start glowing and the discs are shot into the night sky by swinging the hazel stick over a ramp. We show
