Dallas finished the quarter with zero made threes and shot 25 percent from the floor while the Clippers made 8-of-11 three-pointers 72 percent from the floor. Clippers took a 39-16 lead entering the second quarter. <br/><br/>The second quarter was almost worse than the first, Irving scored two three-pointers, these were the only two three-pointers the Mavs would have entering the half, meanwhile L.A. was shooting lights out. The Clippers hit 13 three’s in the first half. <br/><br/>Clippers took a 66-49 lead into halftime. <br/><br/>The Mavs came out hot in the third quarter and within the first four minutes dropped the Clippers lead down to 10 points. Dallas outscored the Clippers 29-16 in the third quarter bringing the lead down to two. Irving led the Mavs entering the fourth quarter with 26 points. <br/><br/>The Clippers made 16 three-pointers while Dallas only had seven, rebounding was big in this game. Dallas had 40 boards while the Clippers only had 26. That is the only reason they were in this game because L.A. was out shooting them. We knew that the Cowboys had two areas of importance on both the offensive line and the defensive line. The offensive line issue was answered on day one with the selection of OT Tyler Guyton. He will replace Tyron Smith, the Cowboys lost Smith in free agency to the Jets. Dallas lost Dorance Armstrong in free agency as well to Washington so the Kneeland pick makes sense, he will help with the loss of Armstrong. <br/><br/>Kneeland came out of Western Michigan University in his 2023 season he played in nine games and had a career-high 57 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and eight quarterback hurries. Kneeland was named second-team All-MAC. <br/><br/>Also, Dallas needs help with the run and they have lacked in that department for a couple years…Marshawn Kneeland had a 99 percentile run stop % since 2022. <br/><br/>The Cowboys selected G Cooper Beebe out of Kansas State with their 73rd overall pick in the third round on day two of the draft. Dallas continues to prioritize their offensive line by grabbing another guard early. <br/><br/>Beebe was a First-Team All-American in 2023. He played in 51 games for Kansas State and started in 48 of them. His 48 starts ranked 5th highest amongst all wildcats since 1990. He was named 2022 and 2023 Big12 Offensive Lineman of the year, one of five players to earn the honor since the award started in 2006. In his career Beebe only gave up five sacks amongst 1,488 career pass blocking snaps. <br/><br/>The Cowboys selected LB Martist Liufau out of Notre Dame with their 87th overall pick in the third round of the NFL Draft. This was another area where the Cowboys needed some work, with the loss of Leighton Vander Esch to injuries it left an opening for opportunity. <br/><br/>Liufau finished his 2023 season as a second year starter for Notre Dame. He finished 2023 as one of the team’s top tacklers. Luka Dončić played a pivotal role, in the second quarter, where he found his rhythm from beyond the arc.<br/><br/>Dončić’s three-point shooting spree gave the Mavericks a slim two-point lead, 34-32, with 7:36 remaining in the second quarter. Dallas then extended their lead to 41-34 with over five minutes left in the quarter, with notable contributions from P.J. Washington and second-leading scorer Dereck Lively II.<br/><br/>The chemistry between Lively and Kyrie Irving was evident on the court, as Irving set up a lob for Lively, who completed the dunk.<br/><br/>Head coach Jason Kidd said the lob was huge for his team tonight, especially with their emphasis on getting in the paint. <br/><br/>“In the first half we had ten and in the first three games you would think that is the total we have,” said Kidd. “I told Ky [Kyrie Irving] he had a career-high of lobs and he was really in tune with D-Live [Dereck Lively II]. We knew that the Cowboys had two areas of importance on both the offensive line and the defensive line. The offensive line issue was answered on day one with the selection of OT Tyler Guyton. He will replace Tyron Smith, the Cowboys lost Smith in free agency to the Jets. Dallas lost Dorance Armstrong in free agency as well to Washington so the Kneeland pick makes sense, he will help with the loss of Armstrong. <br/><br/>Kneeland came out of Western Michigan University in his 2023 season he played in nine games and had a career-high 57 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and eight quarterback hurries. Kneeland was named second-team All-MAC. <br/><br/>Also, Dallas needs help with the run and they have lacked in that department for a couple years…Marshawn Kneeland had a 99 percentile run stop % since 2022. <br/><br/>The Cowboys selected G Cooper Beebe out of Kansas State with their 73rd overall pick in the third round on day two of the draft. Dallas continues to prioritize their offensive line by grabbing another guard early. <br/><br/>Beebe was a First-Team All-American in 2023. He played in 51 games for Kansas State and started in 48 of them. His 48 starts ranked 5th highest amongst all wildcats since 1990. He was named 2022 and 2023 Big12 Offensive Lineman of the year, one of five players to earn the honor since the award started in 2006. In his career Beebe only gave up five sacks amongst 1,488 career pass blocking snaps. <br/><br/>The Cowboys selected LB Martist Liufau out of Notre Dame with their 87th overall pick in the third round of the NFL Draft. This was another area where the Cowboys needed some work, with the loss of Leighton Vander Esch to injuries it left an opening for opportunity. <br/><br/>Liufau finished his 2023 season as a second year starter for Notre Dame. He finished 2023 as one of the team’s top tacklers. The Dallas Mavericks came away with their second win of the series over the Los Angeles Clippers 101-85. <br/><br/>The Mavericks had five players finish the night in double figures with leading scorer Luka Dončić’ ending the night with 22 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and two steals. <br/><br/>Despite the Clippers holding a slim advantage in the second half, thanks to leading scorer James Harden, the Mavericks managed to overcome Los Angeles. Luka Dončić played a pivotal role, in the second quarter, where he found his rhythm from beyond the arc.<br/><br/>Dončić’s three-point shooting spree gave the Mavericks a slim two-point lead, 34-32, with 7:36 remaining in the second quarter. Dallas then extended their lead to 41-34 with over five minutes left in the quarter, with notable contributions from P.J. Washington and second-leading scorer Dereck Lively II.<br/><br/>The chemistry between Lively and Kyrie Irving was evident on the court, as Irving set up a lob for Lively, who completed the dunk.<br/><br/>Head coach Jason Kidd said the lob was huge for his team tonight, especially with their emphasis on getting in the paint. <br/><br/>“In the first half we had ten and in the first three games you would think that is the total we have,” said Kidd. “I told Ky [Kyrie Irving] he had a career-high of lobs and he was really in tune with D-Live [Dereck Lively II].
